African Alliance Community Garden
AARI's Community gardens initiative aims at promoting healthy eating, environmental awareness, education about African foods and provide work to many low income persons on the South side of Providence.
The farmers in the garden are:
African Alliance of Rhode Island
West Elmwood Housing Corp. students
Local neighborhood children
The gardens and those who participate in community gardening contribute to the preservation of open space, provide access to it, and create sustainable uses of the space. Community gardens strengthen community bonds, provide food, and create recreational and therapeutic opportunities especially for the refugee community.
