SUMMARY:ReCollections/ReConnections: Part I
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: ReCollections/ReConnections: Part I=0D=0AEvent Url: http://arttixri.com/event/detail/441574604=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2012-03-17=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2012-05-06=0D=0A=0D=0AWe're celebrating 100 years of enhancing community life in Rhode Island as a shared place for the arts, ideas and culture, so it's fitting that a twoo-part exhibition at the newprot Art Museum this wyear will focus on connections between artists, and across time. This spring, part one of 'ReCollections/ReConnections' pairs artworks by artists who share a relationship of some kind. Part two, which opens this summer, pairs new and old work by multiple artists. Curator Nancy Whipple Grinnell has created some intriguing pairings for the exhibition. Artist Christoper Benson's finley crafted art book of lettering by the late calligrapher and graphic artist Raphael Boguslav is hown with a work by Boguslav from the Museum's collection. From the Japanese by the late alfred DeCredico, also from our collection, is complemented by the work of his son, Cesare DeCredico, as well as a glass sculpture by good family friend Toots Zynsky. Friends Joseph Norman and Larry Sykes exhibited together in the 1990's exhibition 'Directions: African American Artists Now.' Artist Paula Martesian's vibrant oil Black Rocks, Prudence Island (at left), clearly shows the influence of her mentor and teacher Gordon Peers; Peers and his wife Florence Leif exhibited many times at the Museum in the mid-20th century. See work by these duos and many more in 'ReCollections/ReConnections I.'=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:November 1 to April 30=0D=0A=Tuesday - Saturday 10 am to 4 pm=0D=0A=Sunday Noon to 4 p.m.=0D=0A= =0D=0A=May 1 to October 31=0D=0A=Tuesday - Saturday 10 am to 5 pm=0D=0A=Sunday Noon to 5 p.m.
